EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is a framework for the learning and development of children from birth to five years old in the United Kingdom. The EYFS is divided into seven areas of learning and development, which are:
PRIME AREAS
- Communication and Language: This area focuses on helping children to develop their speaking, listening and understanding skills.
- Physical Development: This area focuses on helping children to develop their gross and fine motor skills, such as crawling, walking and using their hands to grip and manipulate objects.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development: This area focuses on helping children to develop their confidence, self-esteem, and ability to form positive relationships with others.
SPECIFIC AREAS
- Literacy: This area focuses on helping children to develop their reading and writing skills, as well as their understanding of the world of books and stories.
- Mathematics: This area focuses on helping children to develop their understanding of numbers, shapes, patterns and measures.
- Understanding the World: This area focuses on helping children to explore and understand the world around them, including people, places, technology and the natural environment.
- Expressive Arts and Design: This area focuses on helping children to develop their creativity, imagination and abilities in art, music, dance and design.
The EYFS curriculum provides a broad and balanced education, which promotes the holistic development of the child. It is based on the principle that children learn best through play, and it encourages staff to create a rich and stimulating learning environment that supports children’s development in all seven areas. The EYFS also recognises the importance of parent involvement in their child’s education, and encourages open communication between parents and staff to ensure that each child’s needs are met.
Rosewood Day Nursery and the EYFS
Rosewood Day Nursery is dedicated to providing high-quality care and education for young children. One of the ways we achieve this is by embedding the statutory guidance set out by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Here’s how we do it:
Assessment and Planning: The EYFS requires nurseries to assess and plan for children’s learning and development, and we follow this guidance at Rosewood Day Nursery. We regularly assess each child in our care and use this information to plan activities and experiences that are tailored to their individual needs and interests.
Play-based Learning: The EYFS recognizes the importance of play in the early years and we embrace this principle at our nursery. Our activities are designed to be fun, engaging, and stimulating, and to promote children’s learning and development in all areas.
Supporting Children’s Development: The EYFS sets out the prime areas of learning and development, which are: communication and language, physical development, personal, social, and emotional development, and literacy. We support children’s development in these areas through a range of activities and experiences, including storytelling, creative play, and physical activity.
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development: The EYFS places a strong emphasis on children’s personal, social, and emotional development, and we support this through our relationships with children, our routines and procedures, and the environment we create. We aim to provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where children feel valued and respected.
Partnership with Parents: The EYFS requires close partnership between parents and practitioners, and we are committed to working in partnership with parents to support each child’s development. We regularly share information about children’s progress and provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their child’s learning and development.
At Rosewood Day Nursery, we are fully committed to embedding the statutory guidance set out by the EYFS framework. We believe that this framework provides the best possible foundation for young children’s learning and development, and we are proud to provide a high-quality early years experience for every child in our care.
